A View of Venice
This oil-on-canvas painting was created in 1891 by American painter and printmaker Thomas Moran (1837-1926). After his travels through the American West, Moran visited Italy and encountered sights of a different kind. He fell so in love with Venice that he bought an antique gondola to use on his pond back home in Long Island, New York. (Smithsonian)
