Old Man of Zuni, High Priest (Cacique)
This oil-on-canvas painting was created in 1924 by American artist, muralist, and lithographer Ira D. Gerald Cassidy (1869-1934). Cassidy primarily painted the American Southwest, especially Native American people and landscapes. The elderly man portrayed here was unidentified by name, although the title “Cacique” suggests he was a tribal chief. (Smithsonian)
