This oil-on-canvas painting was created ca. 1850 by American landscape artist Frances Mary “Jenny” Bellows Millard (1816–1853). Millard may have painted this peaceful view of Mount Vernon, formerly George Washington’s home, as part of the ongoing efforts at the time to renew and preserve this historic property. (Smithsonian)
