Landscape in Brazil
This oil-on-canvas painting was created ca. 1667 by Dutch Golden Age landscape artist Frans Janszoon Post (1612-1680). Post spent time in Brazil on the invitation of the Dutch governor during the Dutch occupation of northeastern Brazil (Dutch Brazil). Although he liked the idea of animals living together harmoniously, he portrayed a boa constrictor in the left foreground of this painting eating a six-banded armadillo. (Rijksmuseum)
