This painting shows the Battle of Stones River, one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. It was fought near Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on December 31, 1862, through January 3, 1863. Although many more men were lost on the Union side, the battle resulted in a Union victory. This color lithograph was published ca. 1891 by Kurz & Allison (LC-DIG-pga-01858).
