This artwork was created by American illustrator Thure de Thulstrup (1894-1930). It shows an intense Civil War battle between Union and Confederate forces fought in southwestern Tennessee on April 6-7, 1862. Gen Ulysses S. Grant is directing from his brown horse on the far right. This chromolithograph was published ca. 1888 by L. Prang & Co. (LC-USZ62-3583).
