This oil-on canvas was created in 1832 by American artist George Catlin (1796-1872). According to Caitlin, Náh-se-ús-kuk, Chief Black Hawk’s oldest son, was a “very handsome young warrior, and one of the finest-looking Indians I ever saw.” (Smithsonian)
