Meerkats are part of the mongoose family. They are at home in the Kalahari Desert and live in groups called mobs. Each mob is led by a matriarch. When the matriarch gives birth, with multiple litters in a year, the other meerkats in the mob help take care of her pups. Meerkat babies are born blind, deaf, nearly hairless, and weigh up to 36 grams at birth.
