Packrat Taking Stock
Packrats live in nests (middens) in many parts of North America and eat plants, seeds, fruits, leaves, and cacti. Their nests may become as wide as eight feet due to adding things like sticks, bones, cacti parts, and stolen items such as keys and tinfoil. Known as “trade rats,” they often drop what they’re carrying if they see something more interesting or useful. They have large eyes to aid in their nocturnal pursuits and theivery.
