Three species of wolves roam the wilds of North America: the Gray Wolf, the Eastern Wolf, and the Red Wolf. They are highly social animals that live in packs and cooperate to defend their territories, take down prey, and raise their pups. They communicate by howling. Wolves have 4-6 pups on average, although they may have as many as 10. Wolves are devoted family members. The mother wolf keeps the pups warm and feeds them milk. The male brings food back to the den.
