The fox is part of the dog family. The red fox is the best known of the 10-plus species, which also includes the North American gray fox, South American fox, Arctic Fox, bat-eared fox, and crab-eating fox. Baby foxes are called kits, cubs, or pups and are born blind and deaf. Within three weeks they can eat regurgitated solid food from their mother. They are born in dens, often under tree roots, and moved to new dens every few weeks for safety.
