Gorillas are often called “gentle giants of the forest.” Wild gorillas all live in central Africa in family units called troops, which number up to 30 gorillas. A troop is usually composed of one dominant male, several females, and all their children. Baby gorillas weigh only about 4 pounds when born. It hangs on to its mother for about three months, then rides on her back for up to three years. Baby gorillas are playful and love climbing and wrestling.
