Sam Rice, 1925
This photograph shows Edgar Charles “Sam” Rice (1890-1974), a Washington Nationals baseball player, swinging at the ball. Rice started out as a relief pitcher but is better known as an outfielder. He batted left-handed but threw right-handed. He played for the Washington Nationals (Senators) from 1915-1933. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1963. The photograph was published ca. 1925.
