This photograph shows professional baseball player Howard Ellsworth “Smokey Joe” Wood (1889-1985) on the field. He played for the Boston Red Sox and the Cleveland Indians. He is best known for a stellar pitching career, although an arm injury later moved him to the outfield. The photograph was published in 1912 by Bain News Service.
