Babe Ruth Knocked Out, 1924
This photograph shows George Herman "Babe" Ruth (1895–1948) lying on the ground unconscious (for five minutes) after he ran into a concrete wall at Griffith Stadium in Washington D.C. while trying to catch a foul ball. He refused to sit the game out and finished the game with two more hits. The photograph was published on July 6, 1924.
