This photograph shows an amateur baseball game being played on a field on the grounds of the National Mall near the Washington Monument. The games were held daily. Teams were made up of employees from rival governmental departments and employees from restaurants, garages, and other nearby businesses. The photograph was created by Marjory Collins in 1942.
