Raymond Caldwell, 1918
This photograph shows New York Yankees pitcher Raymond Benjamin Caldwell (1888-1967) with his right arm extended after pitching the ball. He was one of the last pitchers allowed to use the spitball. Amazingly, he went on to win a game even after being struck by lightning during the ninth inning of a game in 1918. The photograph was published in 1918.
