Native to the lowland and swamp forests of northern New Guinea and nearby islands, the Victoria crowned pigeon is the largest pigeon species in the world and weighs around 5 pounds. It was named after Britain’s Queen Victoria and because of the distinctive "crown" of lace-like feathers on its head.
