Male Hooded Merganser in the Water
This small duck is the smallest of the three merganser species found in North America. Ducks, in general, have compact bodies, webbed feet, and short wings, The shape of their beak has been adapted to meet the needs of their diets. These highly aquatic birds have waterproof feathers and strong wing muscles for fast flight, though some are better suited for land or diving than others.
