Pale-Billed Woodpecker, Ready to Strike
This large, red-headed woodpecker is about the size of a crow and lives in forests and woodlands from northern Mexico to western Panama. Its favorite meal is the large larvae of wood-boring beetles, but it also enjoys termites and some fruits. It is known for its loud, rapid, double-tap drumming sound and nasal chattering calls.
