Major General Philip H. Sheridan
Philip Henry Sheridan (1831-1888) was a career U.S. army officer who rose quickly to the rank of Major General. A short man of 5’5”, he was nicknamed “Little Phil.” In 1865, he and his cavalry were largely responsible for bringing about the surrender of Robert E. Lee at Appomattox, thus ending the Civil War.
