Major General Samuel Sprigg Carroll
This studio portrait shows Major General Samuel Sprigg Carroll (1832-1893) in uniform, who was with the 8th Ohio Infantry Regiment, United States 10th Infantry, and 2nd Army Corps. Maj. Gen. Carroll was wounded three times: in 1862 near the Rapidan River, Virginia; in 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness; and at Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia. This photograph was created ca. 1863.
