This photograph shows Union officers of the 3d Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery posing in full uniform on the lawn in Fort Monroe, Virginia, during the American Civil War. The man seated in the center is Col. Joseph Roberts, who led seaborne expeditions against the Atlantic Coast of the Confederacy. This photograph was created in December 1864.
