Ulysses S. Grant
This studio portrait of Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885) shows him dressed in the uniform of a Lieutenant General. The photograph was taken shortly after the end of the American Civil War. As the Commanding General of the United States Army, Grant led the Union armies to victory over the Confederacy. The photograph was created in May 1865 by Mathew B. Brady.
