This seacoast mortar was made portable during the Siege of Petersburg (Virginia), mounted on a railroad flatcar to allow for quick transport. It was photographed amid other railroad cards in front of Petersburg. The 13-inch cannon was cast at the Fort Pitt Foundry; it weighed over 17,000 pounds.
Photographed in October, 1865, by David Knox.
