Maj. Gen. McClellan and Wife (Union)
Portrayed are Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan, officer of the Federal Army, and his wife, Ellen Mary Marcy. Gen. McClellan was appointed general-in-chief of the United States Armies in November 1861. He lost the confidence of Pres. Lincoln and was replaced by a succession of generals as Lincoln struggled to find the best general to oppose Gen. Robert E. Lee, eventually settling on Grant.
