Central Signal Station
This image shows members of the U.S. Signal Corps gathered on the roof of the Central Signal Station atop the Winder Building, located at 17th and E Streets NW in Washington, D.C. The signal station was used for communication via flag signals between other military units in the area. The photograph was taken in April 1865 by William Morris Smith.
