Captured Guns Outside Atlanta
Captured Guns Outside Atlanta
During the occupation of Atlanta, George N. Barnard
made the best documentary record of the war in the
West. Much of what he photographed was destroyed
in the fiery wake of Sherman's exit from Atlanta on
November 15, 1864. Fire spread rapidly after
Sherman's army blew up the city's military facilities.
