Officers of the 17th New York Battery
The 17th Independent Battery of New York Light Artillery served in the defenses of Washington until ordered to Petersburg in 1864 to support Grant’s siege of Petersburg and Lee’s army. The 17th New York Battery took part in the pursuit of Lee when he abandon Petersburg and was present at Appomattox at Lee’s surrender.
