Ships before the Coast
This oil-on-canvas painting was created ca. 1670 by Dutch marine painter Willem van de Velde II (1633-1707). This painting is a good example of his marine-themed artworks, although some portrayed naval clashes. This shows a serene coastal view with commercial vessels in the forefront, with two warships waiting in the distance. (Rijksmuseum)
