This oil-on-canvas painting was created by English artist George Romney (unknown-1802), ca. 1772. Romney was considered one of the most fashionable portrait painters of his time. He left a legacy of 2,000 paintings and about 5,000 drawings. Little is known about the flushed young woman with the elegant hairstyle in this painting. (Smithsonian)
