This oil-on-canvas painting was created ca. 1650 by Dutch painter, draftsman, and etcher Jan Both (1618-1652). Various people are painted near the waterfall. Note the wealthy traveler in a sedan chair, with mules carrying the luggage. This painting was created at home in Both’s studio. (Rijksmuseum)
