The Capture of the Royal Prince
This oil-on-canvas painting was created ca. 1670 by Dutch marine painter Willem van de Velde II (1633-1707). It illustrates a scene from the third day of the Four Days’ Battle (June 11-14, 1666) between the English and the Dutch when the English flagship, the Royal Prince, became stranded on a sandbar off the English coast.
