This undated oil-on-canvas painting was created by Tennessee artist Charles Frederick Naegele (1857-1944). Naegele painted numerous paintings based on the theme of motherhood, but he was also known for painting landscapes and portraits. This portrait shows a pair that are most certainly mother and daughter. (Smithsonian)
