/
This oil-on-canvas painting was created by Dutch marine painter Willem van de Velde II (1633-1707) ca. 1665. It shows warships in a calm sea, with hoisted sails and raised anchors. The small squadron is leaving, as a sloop with dignitaries rows past the ships. (Rijksmuseum)
