Storm King on the Hudson
This oil-on-canvas painting was created 1866 by American painter, interior designer, and writer Samuel Colman (1832-1920). The Hudson River was a popular subject for landscape painters because of its natural beauty. Another draw was the wild storms that clouded the sky along the ridge of the Storm King Mountain on the west bank of the Hudson River in New York. (Smithsonian)
