In the Garden
This oil-on-canvas painting was originally titled “Celia Thaxter in Her Garden,” and was created in 1892 by American impressionist painter Childe Hassam (1859-1935). It was one of several artworks Hassam created during his summer visits to Appledore Island, off the coast of Maine. The lush wildflower garden belonged to his friend, poetess Celia Thaxter.
