This oil-on-canvas painting was created in 1887 by American impressionist artist Theodore Robinson (1852–1896). The young woman at the piano was one of Robinson’s favorite models. Marie posed for this in an Paris apartment belonging to one of Robinson’s friends. Robinson was in love with Marie but never married her. (Smithsonian)
