This scene of Piegan (or Blackfeet) tipis is a stunning Curtis photograph. The tipis were made of canvas instead of hides after the 1880s decimation of the Plains buffalo herds. Photographed in 1910 by Edward S. Curtis, hand tinted by Stanley R. Waine.
NOTE: Some images are valuable historical records. To preserve their original condition, we have presented them as captured; their resolution may not be optimal for modern displays.
