These Hopi children on burros are from the Mishongnovi village (pueblo) on Second Mesa, Arizona. The Anasazi were the prehistoric ancestors of the Hopi. The Hopi have lived in the Southwest for more than 2,000 years. Their traditional dwellings are built of stone. Photographed in 1918, photographer unknown; hand tinted by Stanley R. Waine.
