Smith Party at Mammoth Hot Springs

$48.00 USD
Size: 18x24
Material: Rolled Gloss Photographic Paper (Unlaminated)

The Smith party posed here with umbrellas open in front of the Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces at Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming). These fascinating travertine sculptures were created over time by an interplay of water flow and mineral deposits from eruptions of the area’s hot springs. About two tons of calcium are deposited each day. Photographed in 1888 by F. Jay Haynes, hand tinted by Stanley R. Waine.

NOTE: Some images are valuable historical records. To preserve their original condition, we have presented them as captured; their resolution may not be optimal for modern displays.
