Hell’s Half Acre, Firehole River
This special area of the Midway Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming) is full of geothermal wonders such as hot springs and bubbling mudpots. Likely because of the steam rising from the warm waters of the Firehole River, famous author Rudyard Kipling named the area “Hell’s Half Acre” in 1889. Hand-tinted by Stanley R. Waine.
