Fountain Paint Pot
The photographer’s wife and son, Jack, were photographed at Fountain Paint Pot, a bubbling mud pot located in Lower Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming). It was named for the reds, yellows and browns of the mud in the area, which come from varying oxidation states of iron. As the water table changes by season, the mud becomes more or less soupy. Photographed by F. Jay Haynes, hand tinted by Stanley R. Waine.
