Excelsior Geyser and tourists
Tourists are seen here visiting the Excelsior Geyser, now dormant. It was active in the late 1800s in Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming). It is located in the Midway Geyser Basin of the park and was named by the Hayden Geological Survey of 1871 for its spectacular eruptions. Its massive eruptions could be seen for miles at the time. Photographed in 1888 by F. Jay Haynes, hand tinted by Stanley R. Waine.
