Manuelito, the once fierce chief of the Navajo, is a beloved figure in Navajo history. He played an important part in the Navajo resistance against settlers taking over their land. After numerous skirmishes with U.S. troops, Manuelito was not captured but finally surrendered in 1866. Photographed ca. 1874.
