This Ute chief, called “Buckskin Charlie,” was posed holding a tobacco bag and calumet (a highly ornamented ceremonial pipe). His ornamentation includes a cross pendant on a metal bead necklace, a hair-pipe choker, and a presidential Indian Peace Medal.
