Pacific Spiketail Dragonfly
These large black and yellow dragonflies measure at least three inches in length and are strong flyers. When they perch, they do so as seen here, at a 45° angle. They forage for food—mosquitoes, flies, and even other dragonflies—along trails and roadways away from water. Dragonflies have existed for over 300 million years, long before dinosaurs.
