Monarch Butterfly Caterpillars
This photo shows several Monarch butterfly caterpillars on a milkweed plant, their preferred food. The ingestion of the toxic milkweed plants makes them poisonous for predators. As they grow, they will go through five stages before forming a chrysalis and becoming a butterfly. The North American Monarch butterfly is one of the most beloved natural phenomena in the world.
