This woodblock print illustrates a popular 17th-century story and kabuki play. It is from the series, “Ogura Imitations of One Hundred Poems by One Hundred Poets.” It was created ca. 1847 by Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), considered the last great master of ukiyo-e art or woodblock print.
