This woodblock print shows, Fuwa Banzaemon, one of two historical figures who were in love with and fought over the same woman. The character was based on an actual samurai. It was created ca. 1845 by Japanese artist Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), considered the last great master of ukiyo-e art or woodblock print. (From the collection of the Rijks Museum, Amsterdam)
